For a village of less than 400 townspeople, Speculator, New York certainly has a great deal to offer anyone enjoying some time in the middle of the Adirondacks. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall are all fantastic seasons to find your way to Speculator. If the outdoors is your passion, there are plenty of water activities available with Lake Pleasant and Sacandaga Lake just a few miles away. Canoeing, kayaking, and fishing are among the most popular for those spending time in Speculator. In the Fall, the foliage of the local trees are as brilliantly colored as any in the Adirondacks, so make sure to bring a sweater and hiking shoes to get the best views.

Even if you decided to head to Speculator on short notice, there will be no shortage of events to choose from. There’s always something going on in the Speculator Region, whether it’s a St. Patrick’s Day Parade or a local fishing tournament.

Speculator has seen its share of sports legends considering its size and location in the Adirondacks. Heavyweight boxers Max Schmeling, Gene Tunney, and Max Baer all trained in Speculator during the 1920’s and 1930’s.
