Tucked away nicely between East Caroga Lake and West Caroga Lake in the Adirondacks, the town of Caroga Lake offers an abundance of summertime activities, as well as a surprising number of choices for the Winter traveler. Traditionally known as a Summer destination, Caroga Lake’s access to water is the primary reason visitors are attracted to the area, with its ample boating and fishing experiences to be had. A little secret that has been slowly spreading is that this area is a haven for blueberry picking, which is best towards the middle of summer. One of the highlights for all visitors is the local amusement park, with a magnificently restored carousel.
Like most communities in the Adirondacks, Caroga Lake’s brilliant Fall foliage and numerous hiking trails are a treat for those stopping by in the early autumn. And once the season transitions over to Winter, Royal Mountain entertains downhill skiers, while the many local trails welcome snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. The local lakes still get plenty of action in the winter as well, with top-notch ice fishing starting with the first ice, and a winter carnival including such outhouse, car, and snowmobile races taking place each January.
